Op-Ed Published in The NY Daily News

I coauthored an op-ed about how the Trump administration’s immigration policy changes are hurting US colleges and international students. On April 6, The NY Daily News published the piece, titled, “Trump is repelling international college students from America. Big mistake.”

International students contributed $39 billion to the U.S. economy in 2016. That money supported an estimated 450,000 U.S. jobs. This is an economic bright spot, an area the United States should promote, not weaken.

“No one should be stuck waiting more than 10 years for a green card. It hurts employers and employees and their families,” said Stephen Yale-Loehr, a professor of immigration law at Cornell Law School. “Indians are being held hostage by our broken immigration system.”

Executive Orders don’t change laws themselves, but they can call for stricter enforcement or propose changes to current laws. This EO sets a new tone by increasing the priority of finding jobs for US workers over letting in foreign workers.
